Hashtag “weekend fleuriste”

One of my favorite creative endeavors is floral arranging. While not strictly limited to Saturday/Sunday, the #weekendfleuriste campaign documents some of my most insta-worthy arrangements.

Favorite Floral Resources.

Ampersand.

Ampersand began behind turquoise barn doors in an alley of the Mission District. My weekend destination for shopping single stem beauties to DIY a fab arrangement at an usually-affordable price point, this floral heaven was also the site of my 30th birthday party.

SF Flower Mart.

One of the best places to find rare, unique, and affordable wholesale flowers is the San Francisco Flower Mart. There is always something interesting to be had here. The abundance of springtime can’t be beat and there’s no better place to buy holiday greenery.

Matilda’s Bloombox.

My friend Emily is the founder of a weekly floral arrangement box that delivers in the San Francisco, Houston, and Austin areas. Receiving these deliveries is always a highlight of my week. Even better, Emily designed a box in honor of Batch in June 2019!

My Tips & Tricks.

  • Invest in a good pair of clippers! They will come in handy for cutting through fibrous stems and will save your scissors from ending up covered in green gunk.

  • Always strip each stem of leaves below the water line. Otherwise you’ll end up with brown water and a faster rot.

  • Keep colors towards similar tones and hues.

  • Look for a variety of sizes, shapes, and textures of elements.

  • Start by placing your largest pieces in the vase first. Work your way towards the fragile finishing items that give the arrangement it’s dimensionality.

  • Keep your flowers out of the direct sun and be sure to clip the stems and change the water every few days.
